About Dr. Kua Jieli

Dr Kua Jieli is a Senior Consultant Cardiologist specialised in interventional cardiology and is the Medical Director at Carrington Cardiology.

He is experienced in managing complex coronary artery disease and a variety of other cardiovascular diseases and conditions. He also handles difficult coronary interventional procedures such as left main disease, chronic total occlusions, and calcified lesions. To date, he has performed over 5,000 invasive coronary angiographies and percutaneous coronary interventions.

Dr Kua Jieli has held prominent positions in the field of cardiology. He served as a Senior Consultant at National University Hospital Singapore and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and was also the Director of the Cardiovascular Catheterisation Laboratory. He currently serves as a Senior Visiting Consultant for the Department of Cardiology at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS), and the Division of Cardiology at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Prior to this, he served as an International Cardiology Fellow and Honorary Consultant at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial Healthcare Trust, where he gained valuable experience in various prestigious healthcare institutions. Furthermore, Dr Kua is the current Secretary of the PCI chapter for the Singapore Cardiac Society and holds several prestigious international fellowships, including:

  • FACC: Fellow of the American College of Cardiology
  • FESC: Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology
  • FSCAI: Elected Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions
  • FAPSIC: Fellow of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology
  • FRCS: Royal College of Surgeons, United Kingdom

Education & Training

He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore. Dr Kua furthered his medical education by earning a Membership in the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the United Kingdom. Subsequently, he pursued advanced training and obtained a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine from the National University of Singapore. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) in Cardiology. Dr Kua was awarded the prestigious Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship from the Ministry of Health and completed advanced interventional cardiology training at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial Healthcare Trust, in the United Kingdom, where he gained experience in complex cardiac procedures.

Clinical Leadership

In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr Kua Jieli actively contributes to management and committees in his field. He serves as the Post PCI clinic lead at NTFGH and is a member of the Western STEMI regional network committee. His leadership as the Director of the Cardiovascular Catheterisation Laboratory underscores his expertise in managing high-volume, complex cardiac interventions and laboratory operations. Dr Kua also led the Post-Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) Clinic at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, which plays an instrumental role in the optimal recovery of patients who have suffered a heart attack.

Teaching Awards

Dr. Kua Jieli is dedicated to education and holds appointments as a Clinical Lecturer at both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS) and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU). Since 2013, he has been recognised for his interventional skills, receiving prestigious awards including Best Case Presenter at TCTAP in both 2023 and 2024. His findings have been showcased at esteemed international conferences, including TCT, TCTAP, AICT-AsiaPC, and EuroPCR, where he has received awards for his contributions.

Research & Publication

Dr Kua has made significant contributions to the field of cardiology through his extensive research and publications. His research has been published in reputable journals such as the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the European Heart Journal, reflecting his commitment to advancing medical knowledge. Additionally, he has presented findings at prestigious international conferences including Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT), TCTAP, AICT-AsiaPC, and EuroPCR, where he has received awards for his contributions.
